GeoBash 2010, Day 1

Woodcutter aka Juli organized and hosted her annual GeoBash, namely the Stockton Pass GeoBash 2010 for the weekend of April 24th. Lee and I decided we'd like to go and make it a mini RV trip if possible. We headed down to the Pass (NW of Willcox just south of Mt Graham) a couple weeks ahead of time to check out the area. We found it would work for us: easy access and we are equipped to dry camp. We decided to make this a 4-day weekend, leaving Tucson Thursday morning and returning Sunday evening. We would cache as much as time permitted. Since Lee's birthday would be Sunday we decided to buy & take a sheet cake to the bash. We didn't know at the time that the reason Juli started doing these annual bashes was to celebrate her 50th birthday 4 years ago. Then we also found out at the bash that it was also Sonoran's (aka Kevin) birthday on Sunday. "Happy Birthday Lee, Juli & Kevin!" So Thursday morning we got the RV & Jeep all hooked up and ready to head out. At 10:00 we jumped into the 4-Runner to go picked up the sheet cake at Costco. Back home I check the computer one last time to see if there were any new caches put out along our route. Juli had said that she would be releasing some north of Willcox on Thursday morning. Sure enough the caches had been published so I downloaded them into my GPS and off we went. We got about 4-5 miles from the house when Lee asked me, "Did you get the cake out of the 4-R?" "No, didn't YOU!" Opps... After a false start we were finally on our way by 11:30. By this time it was getting pretty windy and cooling off in Tucson. The closer we got to the Pass, the cloudier & cooler it got. We could see storm clouds in the West that seemed to be coming our way. Headed north out of Willcox we came to the first new cache. It had been 4 hours since the caches were released so we were sure that someone in the area had already logged the FTF. But NO! We found a blank log sheet - IN ALL FOUR NEW CACHES!! WOOHOO!! We logged 4 FTF (first to find) in one day. That will never happen again. It was sure fun while it lasted!! We got the RV setup by 2:45 and by 3:15 it was snowing outside. It was so pretty and enjoyable to watch. Hot soup sure hit the spot for supper, followed by hot herbal tea and cocoa.
